i-Tree SURVEYS AND URBAN FORESTRY

Urban Forestry differs from ‘arboriculture’ by approaching tree management on a larger scale, usually using i-Tree surveys to capture and analyse data on urban tree cover.

It involves the planning and management of large tree populations and has a focus on securing benefits for urban society where the caring for trees is a means to that end not an end in itself.

Paul and Richard hold an MSc in Arboriculture and Urban Forestry and a particular interest in planned and strategic management of tree populations.

We offer advice and consultancy on tree management strategies and policies, to enable tree owners and managers to efficiently plan their tree management over a long time frame.

We have delivered urban forest assessments using the i-Tree Eco model in Bridgend, Cardiff, Monmouthshire, London and the Black Country.

Having a strategic approach to tree management offers the following benefits:

  • Clear objectives and realistic targets for maintaining and enhancing the tree population
  • Enables sensible and realistic budgeting based on real data
  • A strategy can demonstrate the importance of trees and therefore help to raise awareness and funding for tree management
  • Within local government a strategy can (and should) be adopted as local policy in order to secure the benefits of trees
  • Good strategies include community involvement and consultation so help raise public support for trees.
