Trees have significant benefits for school  and university students and staff, helping to create a pleasant and healthy environment in which to learn.  Many schools also now utilise areas of their sites for ‘Forest Schools’; outdoor learning which encourages understanding and enjoyment of the natural environment.

Whilst the benefits of trees must not be understated, school and estate managers are tasked with maintaining gounds that are safe, healthy and attractive.

These grounds are sometimes of historic value and have provided the backdrop for many formative experiences, sporting and community events as well as education. This presents opportunity and responsibility to manage them well for future generations.

To do this effectively requires an understanding of tree stock including risks, on-going maintenance and in many cases future planning in order to maintain and further enhance landscapes and sites.
